Manifesta 9

The Deep of the Modern

Manifesta is an international art biennial, which presents contemporary art in a new European country every edition. In 2012 it took place in Belgium this, in the large-scale industrial complex of the former coal mine Waterschei in Genk.

A custom made typeface marks this unique location. The bold upper part of the font is inspired by the building. Light lines in the lower part are a reference to an underground labyrinth.

Next to an extensive campaign, the identity covered a wayfinding system, a website, newspapers, and a catalogue.
