Academy of Tal R in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
'Academy of Tal R' is the first major museum retrospective of Danish multidisciplinary artist Tal R. The title should be interpreted as a humorous provocation, since the artist’s work is anything but academic. It is, in fact, wild and unconventional.
The catalogue design emphasises the tactility of Tal R’s work and plays with the word ‘academic', that is why it resembles a note book with elegant (yet unfinished) linen.
The set up of the exhibition embodies darker shadowy spaces, a busy labyrinth, and large open rooms with impressive works. The catalogue mimics this atmosphere by using a claustrophobic lay-out on tracing paper. In contrast the more open pages with the wide photos move slowly throughout the book as carriages.
Essays by Sjarel Ex, Roos van der Lint and Esmee Postma and photos by Ernst Moritz. Printing by Die Keure.
"The publication is a true beauty! It is very authentic to the exhibition."
